Lizzy Javier

Born in Puerto Rico, Lizzy Javier discovered her love of painting at an early age. She pursued her artistic endeavors by studying with a local artist, acclaimed painter, Bart Mayol, who studied at The Corcoran in Washington D.C.

After moving to the U.S., Lizzy continued to take classes at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and to refine her painting, finding inspiration in nature, travel, and life in general. Her work is focused on bold colors, pattern, depth and dimension, and striking imagery.

“To me, paintings are portals, filled with ideas and emotions”, says Lizzy, explaining her artistic philosophy. “Paint to please yourself. Get messy. Use your imagination and give yourself the freedom of self-expression without fear of judgment.”

Lizzy, has displayed her artwork at Kyo Gallery in Alexandria; Franklin Arts Park Center in Purceville, VA; Artspace in Herndon, VA, and Gallery Underground in Arlington, VA. Her paintings has been featured in the Loudoun Arts website, Artist Spotlight.

You will find Lizzy at her easel most afternoons.

She is a member of the Friends of Leesburg Public Art.

About the Artist

 Artist Statement

Art is like breathing, an integral part of my everyday life.

My art is a reflection of my appreciation of the beauty I see in my travel adventures.

I like to capture my travel adventures by using my own photographs to work from. This way I develop my own interpretation of what I see Instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I see before me. I make more arbitrary use of color to express myself forcefully. Color is my inspiration. Color gives me a sense of open-mindedness, frankness and transparency approaching my subject and without fear of being judge.

I paint at the easel using acrylic as a medium but occasionally I switch to watercolor. Everyday brings opportunity to explore and create.

I enjoy realism but depending on how I feel it can be abstract expressionism.

For the past two years, I have been teaching a fun art class for adults to express themselves through creativity. To paint their reality, their vision. To unlock your ability to express your minds eye and how you feel and enjoy the world around you. At class I like to my students to do values and color studies to develop their own voice

I feel a strong connection with my artwork.

Art is like riding a bike the more you do it the better you get at it.
